X-Series Engineering, Refined

Dual-Mono ESS SABRE ES9038PRO DACs

At the heart of the S2 are two ESS SABRE ES9038PRO 32-bit DAC chips, configured in a dual-mono architecture with a dedicated DAC for each channel. This sophisticated implementation provides the foundation for precise digital-to-analog conversion, channel separation, and high-resolution playback.

Fully Balanced Analog Output Stage

Drawing directly from the X1 design, the S2 incorporates a fully balanced, dual-mono analog output stage coupled to Lundahl LL7401 output transformers. This carefully engineered signal path is designed to preserve signal integrity and provide high-quality balanced and single-ended connections to your preamplifier or integrated amplifier.

Dual-Toroidal Power Supply

The S2 integrates a shielded, dual-toroidal power supply within its chassis. Separate power rails for digital and analog circuitry, combined with low-noise linear regulation, reflect LUMIN's emphasis on power-supply design and electrical isolation.

More Than a Streamer: New Digital Inputs

The LUMIN S2 introduces digital inputs to the LUMIN player range, expanding its role beyond network streaming.

Connect an external CD or SACD transport, computer, or another compatible digital source through either of its two S/PDIF inputs:

* Coaxial RCA S/PDIF

* Optical TOSLINK S/PDIF

Both inputs support PCM up to 192 kHz/24-bit and DSD64 over PCM (DoP64). Incoming digital audio can take advantage of the S2's internal ES9038PRO DACs and analog output stage.

For listeners who value physical media alongside modern streaming, this added connectivity makes the S2 a more versatile digital hub.

High-Resolution Streaming, Made Simple

The LUMIN app for iOS and Android provides intuitive access to supported music services, network libraries, playlists, and playback settings. The S2 supports a broad ecosystem of streaming and playback platforms, including: Qobuz and Qobuz Connect, TIDAL and TIDAL Connect, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, AirPlay, Audirvāna, JPLAY, additional supported services and network playback protocols

The S2 supports network playback of PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD512, with selectable upsampling options for PCM and DSD. Full MQA decoding is also supported.

Leedh Processing Lossless Volume Control

LUMIN's Leedh Processing digital volume control is designed to adjust listening levels without the rounding errors associated with conventional digital attenuation. This allows the S2 to offer a digital volume-control option while preserving the integrity of the digital signal as designed.

Depending on your system configuration, the S2 can be used with a conventional preamplifier or in a compatible direct-to-amplifier arrangement. For a reference system, we recommend evaluating the gain structure and connectivity of the entire signal chain before choosing the optimal configuration.
