REL Acoustics No.35 Reference Subwoofer

The REL Acoustics No.35 represents a remarkable advance in high-performance subwoofer design, combining extraordinary power and dynamic scale with the speed, precision, and refinement that define the REL Reference Series. Engineered around a completely redesigned 12-inch Pure Carbon Fibre driver and a powerful 900-watt Class AB/D amplifier, the No.35 delivers bass with exceptional depth, control, and authority.

Designed for the most demanding two-channel and home theater systems, the No.35 does far more than reproduce the lowest frequencies. It brings greater weight and dimensionality to music, expands the scale of the soundstage, and gives dynamic peaks an effortless sense of realism. Its presentation is powerful yet composed, revealing the texture and nuance of bass while allowing the main loudspeakers to perform with greater freedom.

A New Standard for 12-Inch Reference Performance

At the heart of the No.35 is a newly engineered 12-inch Pure Carbon Fibre driver featuring an advanced 12K carbon weave. The driver has been comprehensively redesigned, including its cast-aluminum frame, suspension, surround, and motor structure, to deliver substantially greater excursion while maintaining precise control.

The result is an extraordinary combination of output, speed, and refinement. REL states that the No.35 plays louder than its previous-generation 15-inch Reference flagship, while offering the detail, nuance, and composure expected of a Reference Series design.

900 Watts of Class AB/D Power

The No.35 introduces a sophisticated 900-watt Class AB/D amplifier, combining the substantial current reserves of a traditional Class A/B power supply with the speed and efficiency of a Class D output stage.

A massive 17-pound toroidal transformer supplies the current needed to control the newly developed driver, while the Class D output stage delivers power with exceptional speed and efficiency. This architecture provides the dynamic headroom to reproduce demanding musical and cinematic passages with authority, without sounding strained.

Precision Room Tuning from the Listening Position

The No.35 incorporates Dual Parametric EQ, allowing two areas of bass response to be adjusted to better accommodate room acoustics and system integration. One filter can address a prominent low-frequency room resonance, while the other can help refine excess energy in the upper bass.

An included Reference Remote places essential adjustments at the listening position, including crossover, phase, High-Level or Low-Level gain, LFE gain, and the two parametric filters. This makes it possible to fine-tune the subwoofer while listening, rather than repeatedly returning to the equipment.

The Foundation for a REL Reference Line Array

For those seeking the ultimate expression of REL performance, the No.35 can be incorporated into a Reference Line Array. Multiple subwoofers arranged vertically create a more expansive presentation, increasing bass output while energizing the room in a different way from a conventional single-subwoofer installation.

The No.35 also retains the exact cabinet dimensions of the previous No.31, allowing it to serve as an upgrade within existing Reference Line Arrays that incorporate No.31 models. This provides a valuable path forward for longtime REL Reference owners.

Seamless Integration for Music and Home Theater

REL's signature High-Level connection allows the No.35 to receive the same amplified signal as the main loudspeakers, helping bass integrate naturally with their tonal character and timing. Dedicated low-level and LFE connections provide additional flexibility for system configurations.

High-Level and .1/LFE connections can be used simultaneously, making the No.35 equally capable in a reference stereo system and a high-performance home theater. Optional REL AirShip Direct wireless connectivity transmits both signal types without digital compression, eliminating the need for long signal cable runs.

Exquisite Reference Craftsmanship

The No.35 combines advanced engineering with a beautifully executed cabinet. Its distinctive curvilinear enclosure features sweeping surfaces, extensive internal bracing, and a hand-rubbed Piano Black Lacquer finish applied in 12 coats. Sculpted details, carbon fiber accents, and precision-machined hardware complete a design worthy of a flagship component.

For listeners seeking uncompromising bass performance, the REL Acoustics No.35 brings together exceptional output, speed, precision, and musical sophistication in a remarkably capable 12-inch Reference subwoofer.
