The REL Acoustics Planar PL-1 reimagines what a high-performance subwoofer can be, combining powerful, articulate bass with an ultra-thin cabinet designed for placement near or directly on a wall. At its core, the PL-1 combines dual 6.5-inch long-throw active drivers, a specially tuned 10-inch passive radiator, and a 300-watt Pure Class D amplifier. Its innovative boundary-coupled design works in close relationship with the wall behind the cabinet to reinforce low-frequency output, delivering impressive bass extension from a remarkably compact enclosure.

Boundary-Coupled Bass Performance

Traditional subwoofers often require considerable floor space and careful placement. The Planar PL-1 takes a different approach, using the wall behind it as an integral part of its low-frequency design.

A rear-firing 10-inch passive radiator works in conjunction with the wall to reinforce bass output, while two forward-firing active drivers deliver the speed, dynamics, and articulation that define REL's approach to subwoofer design.

The result is substantial low-frequency presence from a cabinet measuring just 5.7 inches deep, with an in-room low-frequency extension rated to 31 Hz at -6 dB.

The PL-1 employs two 6.5-inch FibreAlloy long-throw drivers in a carefully engineered configuration designed to provide dynamic, controlled bass. A 300-watt RMS Pure Class D amplifier supplies the power needed to reproduce demanding musical passages and cinematic effects with authority.

REL's analog input filtering and PerfectFilter circuitry are designed to preserve timing, tonal balance, and the natural integration between the subwoofer and the main loudspeakers.

Rather than simply adding more bass, the PL-1 is designed to complement the entire system, bringing greater weight, physical presence, and scale to music and movies.

Seamless Integration with Your System

REL's renowned High-Level connection allows the PL-1 to receive the same amplified signal driving your main loudspeakers, helping the subwoofer integrate naturally with their tonal character and dynamic behavior.

For systems with dedicated subwoofer outputs, the PL-1 also provides low-level RCA and LFE RCA inputs. This flexibility makes it suitable for a wide variety of stereo and home theater configurations.
