In 2019, world-renowned audio designer Bascom H. King visited Destination HiFi in Los Angeles for a private listening session.
“That was a very ear-opening experience!” said King.
During the visit, Destination HiFi owner James Thompson tuned the Legacy VALOR speaker system specifically for the legendary designer’s listening session.
“I was shocked by that reproduction and how good the other things I brought to James Thompson’s Destination HiFi sounded,” King said. “I was most impressed with the sense of the recorded space in the recordings I brought with me.”

King is best known as the designer behind the PS Audio BHK amplifier, as well as celebrated designs for Infinity, Marantz, and Constellation Audio. This listening session at Destination HiFi took place prior to his passing in 2022.
At the heart of the system were Legacy VALOR speakers, deploying an extraordinary 2,750 watts of onboard amplification to command the subwoofer, bass, midrange, and ambient arrays, with the critical upper register powered by the CODA 16 stereo amplifier. Music playback via Lumin, completed a meticulously curated, reference-class playback chain.
Thompson spent extensive time carefully voicing the system with King—a hallmark of the hands-on, bespoke tuning and experience brought to every Destination HiFi project.

Destination HiFi founder James Thompson has tuned and voiced multiple high-performance audio systems for music industry leaders including L.A. Reid—three-time Grammy Award winner, CEO, and X Factor judge—as well as for SONY Music and Epic Records across Los Angeles, New York City, and London.
Destination HiFi's clients range from iconic artists Daron Malakian of Grammy-winning rock band System of a Down, to discerning audiophiles seeking the highest possible standard of music reproduction.
